Experts call for FIT standardisation

Differences in naming, measurement and reporting of results between different fecal immunochemical tests (FITs) are holding the method back, argue Australian and international experts in Gastroenterology.

The authors, including Professor Graeme Young from Flinders University, argue that FIT has “clear analytical, operational, and clinical advantages,” but require standardisation to more widely taken up.

“We can only identify the most appropriate FIT and achieve the maximum benefit from FIT screening by ensuring comparability of results over time, geography, and method,” they wrote.
