Anti-TNF for Crohn’s on PBS

The anti-TNF adalimumab (Humira) will be available on the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme from this Friday for the treatment of adults with complex refractory fistulising Crohn′s disease.
According to the manufacturer, Abbott, complete fistula closure was achieved in a greater percentage of adalimumab-treated patients versus those receiving placebo at both week 26 (33% vs 13%) and week 56 (37% vs 13%). All patients with complete fistula closure at week 26 continued to have complete fistula closure at week 56.
