Recommended requirements for colonoscopy recertification drew criticism from several directions at AGW 2010 last week.
Associate Professor Warwick Selby presented the recommendations for the criteria for recertification of the Quality Working Group for the National Bowel Cancer Screening Program.
He said among the requirements for recertification will be the performance of 150 colonoscopies in a three year cycle and an adenoma detection rate of 10% in consecutive procedures of patients 40 years or older.
Professor Selby said that if ‘outliers’ were detected, the reasons for the poor performance would be investigated and there will be an appeals process.
