Research questions travel risk for IBD patients

 The tendency of IBD patients to avoid travelling due to fear of enteric illness may be unfounded, say the authors of the first research of its kind.
The retrospective study, – which compared over 200 IBD patients to roughly the same number of controls – found although IBD patients had a higher rate of illness when travelling in developed countries, rates of illness were roughly similar when travelling in developing countries. The most surprising finding of the study, published in Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology, was that people with IBD had less incidence of illness than controls when travelling to tropical areas, the authors said.
